Alternativley, a large amount of books we read in class have been turned into graphic novels and comic books, check it out! Marion Mousse created a Frankenstein comic.
We mustn't forget Marvel's homage to Charles Dickens A Christmas Carol,
Are you Alice, a Japanese graphic novel, draws it's plot from the classic story Alice in Wonderland by Lewis Carroll.
There is also, for sale, a graphic novel based on the book The Hobbit by J.R. Tolkien. I'd be really interested to read that one, seeing as the movie based on the book by Tolkien is coming out soon!
As far as I can tell, there aren't any Harry Potter Graphic novels, nor have I heard of any in the works, (which is probably for the best.) Likewise, I have not seen any How to Train your Dragon comic book. I am pretty sure that I have seen a How to Train your Dragon Mad Libs game in Walmart. That would be a fun Mad Lib, I'd play it.
I agree with you Jeni. I think comic books or graphic books are literature, it's just more of a visual book. I like reading graphic books more than novels. I like the fact that graphic books have less writing and a better visual aid, but that's only for me since I am not very creative. There are some really good novels out there, but novels are sometimes too wordy and long.
ReplyDeleteOf course they count as literature! They communicate lessons and storylines, and they are a significant part of American culture! Also, a lot of books have illustrations. They do say, "A picture is worth a thousand words."
ReplyDeleteJeni, literature is whatever you make of it. Literature is in my opinion a form of art. From poems, to adventerous stories and even comics. If it is important to you, and you are able to retain the message when reading it (which you most certainly are) then of course its literature. I myself enjoy poetry, especially many if not all of Adam Cruz's poetry. You just have to find the type of literature that speaks to you the most. I like that your in love with comics, its somewhat unusual for women to enjoy comics and its different. Thats always good!
ReplyDeleteDuh!! Literature is anything you perceive it to be. I think that comics and manga are literature and also fan-fiction. Even the newspaper counts as literature. I don't know what others believe in to what is literature but to me literature is anything you would enjoy reading.
ReplyDeleteAbsolutely, it's just like what Ms. Wooten said in my ENG 113 class. Literature is anything that speaks to you: books, poems, comic, lyrics, etc.
